Steve Benton was trying to help his daughter get the attention of college coaches. A true soccer fan, he grew up with the sport, playing in a small local youth league, holding season tickets to his hometown NASL team, and he had been to nearly every game his daughter had played since she was a small child. However, even though she was a gold medal-winning, undefeated athlete in TaeKwonDo, she never got the break or the recognition to easily "walk into" a university program for her favorite sport, soccer. But Steve had an advantage - he was a computer programmer.
Utilizing his sports knowledge he had acquired through the years, along with his programming skills, he built a dynamic website to showcase his daughter's talents, and then, in order to make it easier for her to contact coaches, he added special functionality and a database of college coaches. It was then that he knew he had something that could potentially help thousands of kids. He set out to make Player2Coach, and what we have today is a direct result of his love for sports, his children and his sincere desire to help student-athletes to showcase themselves to college coaches.
By the way, Steve's daughter then proceeded to receive an excellent scholarship to play soccer at an academically and athletically strong university, where she recently made it to the second round of the national championships. She wasn't the star on her high school team, never played "Premier" league and was never selected for ODP. But Player2Coach gave her the visibility she needed, where she then went on to be one of the highest scoring forwards in her conference, and being named to All-Conference and All-Region first teams, as well as receiving NAIA All-American honors.
Some kids just need a shot. Could yours use some help too? That's why we're here.
